3 Summer interior trends you should try
Over the past year, we’ve had it all haven’t we? Wind, rain, floods, snow….
Well, whisper it quietly, but I think spring is well and truly here. And with the promise of warmer weather to come, we can all start planning those decorating jobs we’ve been putting off whilst we’ve hunkered down in our homes.
With a new season, comes a new set of styles, and over the past few months a number of key interior design trends have emerged. We’ll take you through 3 of these key trends, showing you how to achieve each style in your own home, along with the type of venetian blind that will complement your chosen design.
Golds and silvers
This summer, luxury and subtle opulence really is key. Dripping with precious metals and enough bling to make even the most bejeweled diva green with envy! Even paint company Dulux are getting in on the act, naming their colour of the year “cherished gold”.
Whilst chrome-plated fixtures are nothing new, gold-coloured taps and accessories are certainly becoming more popular – and with it being an olympic year, that’s hardly surprising!
Mix up your metallics with luxury worktops and surfaces such as marble (or marble-effect if you’re looking for something a bit more affordable) and you can achieve a palatial home that is bang on-trend.
Choice of blind: To enhance the metallic look, there is a wide choice of options open to you. Why not choose a gold or even a silver venetian blind, for a room that is truly regal.
Dark depths
Despite our mornings and evenings getting lighter, we’ve noticed that home interiors are getting darker. This new dark and mysterious trend has, like many trends before it, emerged from retail outlet and hotel design, before finally breaking through into home interiors.
Whilst a dark theme typically conjures up a drab and depressing image, this style should be anything but! Darker colours such as blues, teals, and purples can be combined with iridescent surfaces that play with light, to produce an effect that is reminiscent of the ocean depths.
Acidic tones, such as toxic yellows and neons, can be used with your darker elements to create vivid accents.
For walls and surfaces, unusual textures, that are almost reminiscent of “alien” skins, are a great way of achieving this style. Whilst echoes of marine creatures, whether as a motif on accessories, or even in physical forms through coral or sculptures, can help to create the desired look.
Choice of blind: There are plenty of darker coloured blinds to choose from, but, to create an interplay between light and dark, we’d suggest a perforated blind. With an almost skin-like feel, this type of venetian blind is perfect for this style.
Bringing the outdoors indoors
This year, the line between outdoors and indoors will become more blurred than ever. With plenty of summer events that will encourage shared use of both the interior and exterior of the home, this trend will emerge more as the sun starts to make its long-overdue appearance.
In the garden, homeowners are now demanding ever increasing levels of comfort, with furniture which wouldn’t look out of place in a lounge.
Inside the home, greenery is key, with more plant life, bringing a lush and verdant feel to your home. Conservatories or glazed spaces can be adjusted to transition between the two.
More naturally-inspired materials can also help to realise this interior style. Organic materials such as cork and plywood are set to feature heavily for a variety of different uses. Wicker and rattan are two materials which cross the divide between outdoors and indoors perfectly, and can be used not just in furniture, but for a whole variety of renewable accessories.
For your windows, there are two great options that will further enhance this style. Wood effect venetian blinds will blend in beautifully with more natural materials in your home, whilst a green venetian blind will help to create the feeling of being outdoors, even when the inevitable rain clouds come rolling in.
